Chapter nine

Parker

“I can't believe you woke me up so fucking early to go fishing,” Blake grumbles under his breath.

It’s cold on the banks of the lake. The wind is whipping through the trees, coming at us from every direction.

“Sunrise is the best time to catch fish, Uncle Blake!” Leo smiles up at his uncle.

I love how all of Addi’s friends act like family and their kids call them aunts and uncles. It’s just like how things are between Owen, Luke and I. It shows how close they are and how important their friends are to them.

“Did you at least bring me some hot chocolate?” Wes rubs his hands up and down Charlie’s arms, trying to keep her warm.

“Here, Mom said you’d want some.” Wyatt shakes his head with a chuckle.

“Your mom is the best. She loves me the most.” Wes smirks at Blake, making him scowl.

“Do you want some?” Wyatt holds up the thermos of hot chocolate. He has several of them and a stack of cups. These people sure do come prepared.

“I’ll stick with my coffee, thanks.” I tip back my cup and take a long swig.

“Parker doesn’t know how to be fun yet. We need to teach him before the baby’s born.” Owen nudges me in the ribs.

“Papa Parker’s fun! He helps me and Cici come up with pranks to pull on you. Like that time you couldn’t open your bedroom door. We put Vaseline on the handle.” Cord stares up at his dad with a proud smirk.

“Damn, I just thought I had too much lube on my hand,” Owen mutters under his breath.

“Sometimes I find it hard to believe you’re a father.” I shake my head.

“I can't wait to see you with an infant. Maybe your little girl will make that dead black heart of yours start beating again.” Owen places a hand on my left pec and starts massaging it. “Are your nipples hard because your happy to see me?” Owen wiggles his eyebrows.

“Shut the fuck up.” I chuckle and push him away. “It’s fucking cold out here.”

I’ve softened over the years. If Owen had done something like this before kids started entering the family, I would’ve punched him and scowled. Now, I’ve learned to roll with it and find it entertaining. I'm never going to change him; I might as well learn to enjoy it.

“Prove it. Drop your pants so I can see how shriveled up your balls are.” Owen folds his arms over his chest and waits.

“What the hell is wrong with you? You know there are kids here.” I motion to the four kids surrounding us.

Wyatt, Leo, Charlie and Cord wanted to come fishing. Cici said it was too cold and she was tired, so she curled up and went back to sleep.

“Eh, they’re all boys. They’ve got balls.”

“I'm not a boy, Owen.” Charlie plants her hands on her hips and glares at him.

“Damn, really? Are you sure?” Owen’s teasing her, tilting his head to the side and narrowing his gaze like he doesn’t believe her.
